Background:

The school is set close to the village centre but is largely surrounded by open countryside. Pupils who attend the school come from a wide area outside Caddington including South Luton, Slip End, Dunstable and East Hyde. Five oaks was originally built as a secondary school, and so enjoys, as a middle school, spacious accommodation and excellent facilities. These include a library/resources room, a science laboratory, music room, ICT suites, large playing fields and grass tennis courts. The main computer suite is open at lunchtimes for pupils to use and enjoy. It has installed computers into the music room and introduced music software so that ICT will be an integral part of the music curriculum. The school is fortunate in having a very large sports field that accommodates three rounders, football, hockey and rugby pitches, grass tennis courts and an athletics track. The school hall is also equipped so that it is used as a gymnasium, with gym, dance, basketball and badminton as PE lessons. The school aims to create a happy, caring atmosphere where everybody can feel secure, where all are positively encouraged to show tolerance and where mutual respect is practised.
