Background:

Vandyke Upper School and Community College opened in 1976 as a purpose-built 13-18 comprehensive school to serve the town of Leighton Buzzard on the western edge of Bedfordshire. It has an impressive range of facilities including a theatre, a floodlit artificial turf pitch and other specialist accommodation. The school values the role that ICT can play in assisting students with their learning and in offering new and exciting ways in which teachers can teach and students can learn. The music suite consists of one main teaching room equipped with keyboards and multi-media resources and a second teaching room containing state of the art computers all running the latest music technology software. Facilities are excellent and include a sports hall (incorporating a new sprung floor), six tennis courts, an activity area/gymnasium, extensive playing fields, enclosed cricket nets, an all-weather floodlit sports arena and five new Tartan athletics jumping pit approaches. The school aims to provide a stimulating and challenging environment in which all students can develop their knowledge, attitudes and skills in order to increase their chances in life.
